Common Puppy Training Problems

1. **House Training Issues**: Puppies may have accidents indoors, struggle to signal when they need to go out, or take a long time to learn proper bathroom habits.

2. **Biting and Nipping**: Puppies often explore the world with their mouths, which can lead to biting or nipping at hands or clothing during play.

3. **Jumping Up**: Many puppies will jump on people when they greet them, which can be cute but also frustrating and undesirable behavior.

4. **Pulling on the Leash**: Puppies may pull on the leash during walks, making it difficult to control them and to enjoy the walk.

5. **Excessive Barking**: Some puppies bark a lot, which can be due to boredom, anxiety, or lack of training.

6. **Chewing**: Puppies may chew on furniture, shoes, or other household items, especially during the teething phase.

7. **Separation Anxiety**: Puppies can become anxious when left alone, which may lead to destructive behavior or excessive barking.

8. **Fear of New Experiences**: Some puppies may be fearful of new places, sounds, or people, which can hinder their socialization.

9. **Inconsistent Commands**: Using different words or commands for the same action can confuse a puppy and make training more difficult.

10. **Lack of Focus**: Puppies can have a short attention span, making it challenging to train them effectively without frequent breaks.

To address these issues, consistent training, patience, and positive reinforcement techniques are essential.  Thats what I am here to help with

When you first bring a puppy home it can be very exciting but daunting all at the same time, so I am on hand to come and guide you through those key canine development stages to ensure that your puppy grows up to be the best companion you can have.

The home visit includes topics such as training a puppy to settle in a crate, puppy toilet training, how to train your puppy to sit, lay down, come when called, walk to heel, and leave objects. During the session, you discover how dogs learn and how to avoid common problems. In addition to practical puppy training, we will talk about how to go about appropriate habituation to places and people, and socialising with other dogs.  Its totally geared towards your needs, to address any concerns you have, and to equip you with strategies that have been tried and tested.

Here’s some feedback from clients Jill has helped

Puppy training and manners – introducing another dog to the family

“Reminded me of basics that I had learnt with Bodger to use on Mabel. She has been much calmer since Jill’s visit and I love the Gencon lead which I believe will change my whole walks with both dogs and yet it is so gentle.  Jill’s help once again with a common sense attitude and gentle but firm ways is an excellent way for any dog owner and I always promote her services to anyone I meet with dog problems.” (Kathleen R)

Setting a good example, teaching new puppy different commands.

“I noticed how well Zulu reacted to the new commands and how quickly he learnt.  I can see that being consistent is key and now is the time to set these new rules and routines before he does pick up bad habits.

The session was very helpful as it reinforced what you think you know but often fail to implement.  I was sceptical at first at the need to reward Zulu as in my naivety I felt that he should want to please me anyway.  I see now that this is the way forward and I will hope to ease off on the treats as Zulu develops.  It is also important to me that Zulu fits in with us and our routines and not the other way round and that he doesn’t have just one Master but we all have our own relationship with him.  I am looking forward to seeing him grow and develop and the challenges that lie ahead.” (Emily W)
